Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. will be releasing its new 2022 YZF-R7 supersport model in the US and Europe, the company said in a press release.

A Japan domestic launch is scheduled in the latter part of 2021.

Reservations for the 2022 YZF-R7 in the US can be placed through Yamaha’s American arm’s online reservation system. However, Yamaha Motor USA says that the new supersport model will initially be made in limited quantities.

The 2022 YZF-R7 comes in two color options: Team Yamaha Blue and Performance Black, both of which will be made available in June 2021.

Both bikes have a sticker price of US$8,999, which is roughly P430,953.

According to Yamaha, the YZF-R7 was developed under the concept of “A Fun Way to Master a Supersport.” It was built from the main parts and components of the MT-07 and is the first MT-07-based model with the Quick Shift System (QSS) for quick and smooth clutchless upshifts.

Outfitted with a 689cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC inline twin-cylinder (four-valves per cylinder) fuel-injected CP2 engine, the YZF-R7 delivers an exhilarating and sporty ride whether on the road or on the track.

The CP2 engine also features forged aluminum pistons with direct-plated cylinders integrated with the crankcase.

A six-speed transmission provides the US-spec YZF-R7 smooth and effortless shifting.

Suspension-wise, Yamaha’s newest bike is equipped with an inverted front suspension with excellent front-end feedback and model-specific rear suspension. Both suspension systems are adjustable for preload and rebound with the front having additional adjustable compression features.

It features a new full-LCD instrument panel that informs the rider of gear position, fuel capacity, real-time and average fuel economy, water temp, clock, and more—all presented in a high-contrast display.

In addition, the YZF-R7 sports adaptive bi-functional LED headlights, refined sportbike ergonomics, and sleek R-series styling.

The US-spec YZF-R7 also offers featured accessories to aesthetically jack up the bike. These accessories include fender eliminators, sprint screen smoke-tinted windshield, frame sliders, radiator guards, and seat cowls.

The YZF-R7 is expected to bridge the gap between the Japanese sports bike maker’s entry-level YZF-R3s and the track-oriented YZF-R1s. The YZF-R7 offers a mid-level option that can cater to the needs of riders with different skill levels.

There’s no news when the YZF-R7 will reach local dealerships. In the meantime, Yamaha Philippines will continue to spice up the local supersport segment with the YZF-R15 and the YZF-R3.
