JMC Vigus

The JMC Vigus’ cabin looks very premium for its price. Upfront, drivers have access to a full-digital instrument panel (7-inch for the Vigus Plus, while 3.5-inch for the regular Vigus), a multicontrol steering wheel (leather-wrapped for Vigus Plus), and a modern-looking gear lever. 

For entertainment and information accessibility, this pickup truck gets a 12.8-inch floating dual screen, which offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB input, as well as an AM/FM radio. Higher trims feature a 4-speaker sound system, while the lower trims get the 2-speaker version.

In terms of practicality, you have plenty of room in the front and enough space to accommodate three passengers at the back. For an accessible workhorse, its seats provide good cushioning and ergonomics for everyone on board. You also get a hidden storage space underneath its rear seats. 

The JMC Vigus features a rugged yet classy pickup truck design. For a workhorse, it definitely has an appealing look, which can catch the attention of the people around it. Upfront, the Vigus proudly showcases its identity through a large ‘JMC’ lettering on its imposing grille. The Vigus Plus version sports a full-chrome grille, while the regular Vigus gets the blacked-out version. The Vigus Plus variants feature auto-sensing headlights, while the regular Vigus trims get the standard version. Both versions come with front fog lamps. For enhanced visibility, the Vigus Plus also gets LED DRLs.

The JMC Vigus has a two-toned side profile accentuated by black window trims and door handles (for the regular Vigus). For easier ingress and egress, the Vigus Plus also gets a stepboard as a standard. The higher trims run on 18-inch wheels, while the lower trims run on the 16-inch counterparts. Meanwhile, at the back both versions get X-shaped taillights, rear fog lamps, a high-mounted stop lamp, hooks, and a metal bed bar. The MT variants offer a 880-kg payload capacity, while the AT variants offer 870 kg.

In terms of dimensions, all variants of the JMC Vigus measure 5,335 mm in length, 1,882 mm in width, and 3,150 mm in wheelbase. The Vigus Plus measures 1,892 mm in height, while the regular Vigus is 1,834 mm. Overall, this pickup truck’s design offers a good mix of practicality and functionality without sacrificing style in the process.

The JMC Vigus comes with a Double Wishbone suspension with Coil Spring at the front, while a Leaf Spring at the rear. For a mid-size utility pickup truck, it handles turns or corners pretty well. In the city, it can also effectively absorb bumps and other road imperfections. However, its ride quality tends to get a bit bouncy or floaty when travelling without cargo or any load. But, on the plus side, its ride improves with more passengers or cargo on board.

The JMC Vigus is powered by a 2.5L turbo diesel engine that is tuned differently depending on the transmission system. Both engines of the manual and automatic transmission variants produce a maximum power output of 167 hp. In terms of torque, the engine of the automatic variants produces 430 Nm, while the manual variants’ produce 410 Nm. As mentioned before, this model line comes in two transmission options: Magna six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic transmission.

This pickup truck is capable enough to run at high speeds out on the open road. However, it might be better to think twice before overtaking slower vehicles on free-flowing highways since its engine has limited power. But, on the plus side, it offers a pretty good fuel economy for its segment. It is a very feasible daily commuter or workhorse even in mixed conditions. 

The JMC Vigus is equipped with several active and passive safety features, which include driver and passenger SRS airbags, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, as well as cruise control (standard for the Vigus Plus). Its braking setup is also supported by an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, hill launch assist, and hill descent control. This pickup truck comes with four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes.

For business owners and/or budget-oriented commuters, the JMC Vigus stands out as a very compelling option. Currently, it is arguably among the locally-available mid-size pickup trucks that offer the highest value for money.
