Mitsubishi Destinator

The Mitsubishi Destinator’s interior looks like the XForce’s but feels like the Montero Sport’s because of its cutting-edge technological features and spacious cabin. Its interior is designed to elevate comfort and provide an overall premium feeling. On top of this, the SUV also gets the brand’s ‘Horizontal Axis Dashboard Design’, which provides the driver with a better view while on the road. 

Higher variants get an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat and a 4-way manually-adjustable front passenger seat. On the other hand, the base variant gets a 6-way manually-adjustable driver seat but the same front passenger seat option. All variants are equipped with 2nd row-facing seatback pockets and grocery hooks as well as foldable tables, all of which ensure that you and your passengers’ needs are met when having out-of-town trips or grocery shopping. 

All passengers in the higher variants can enjoy the Destinator’s interior ambient lighting system that offers 64 color options and a 12.3-inch touchscreen smart phone link display audio, which has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, Tuner, USB ports, and a wireless mobile phone charger. Meanwhile, the base variant gets an 8-inch version without a wireless mobile phone charger. The GT variant is equipped with an 8-speaker Yamaha sound system, while the GLS and GLX variants get 6-speaker and 4-speaker versions respectively. 

Drivers of the higher variants can monitor their driving through an 8-inch LCD meter instrument cluster display, whereas base variant drivers can use a 4.2-inch TFT color LCD version. Mitsubishi’s commitment to providing its clients with class-leading comfort and entertainment is undoubtedly visible in the Destinator. 

The Mitsubishi Destinator is the latest model to be sculpted with the ‘Gravitas & Dynamism’ design concept, along with the XForce and the Triton. This SUV showcases the brand’s beautiful modern styling courtesy of its dynamic shield fascia, which just gives it a look that is both powerful and aesthetically-futuristic. 

Like the XForce, the Destinator is equipped with the brand’s trendy LED T-shaped headlamps and tail lamps. In addition, Mitsubishi also gave this car its ‘Hexaguard Horizon’ rear design, which enhances its stability while on the road. Higher variants also get LED front fog lights and DRLs. However, only the GT comes with a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, and a power tailgate with hands-free function.

The Mitsubishi Destinator is 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,780 mm in height. It has a 2,815 mm wheelbase and a 214 mm minimum ground clearance. It runs on 18-inch alloy wheels: two-toned for higher variants and gray colored for the base. 

Ultimately, at the end of the day, it wouldn’t be surprising if other people will just buy this car because of its looks. The SUV’s exterior is engineered to enhance its stability and robustness on uneven pavements while giving it a clean and sophisticated appearance.

The Mitsubishi Destinator utilizes a suspension combination of a McPherson Strut with coil spring and stabilizer at the front, while a torsion beam at the rear. Thanks to this suspension setup, you will be able to pass through road bumps with ease, maintain stability even at high speeds, and just have a comfortable driving experience overall. Its suspension system along with the five drive modes are designed to give you great handling and turning capabilities while passing through our narrow and imperfect roads.

The Mitsubishi Destinator is powered by a 1.5L, 4 in-line turbocharged gasoline engine that produces a maximum power output of 163 PS and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. All variants run on continuously variable transmission (CVT). Higher variants are equipped with the brand’s innovative five drive modes: Normal, Wet, Gravel, Tarmac, and Mud, making it adaptable to any road–even the most uneven and slippery ones in ASEAN countries. This is a great daily vehicle in the Philippines, regardless if you are passing through urban or rural roads. The five drive modes just make your driving experience easier. Though, it is still important to note that this car is not immune to road bumps, impassable off road conditions, and changing weather. 

Safety is one of the Mitsubishi Destinator’s strengths. This SUV is equipped with Mitsubishi Motors’ Safety Sensing (MMSS), which offers blind spot warning system, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision mitigation system, leading car departure notification, automatic high beam, and the heavily-desired adaptive cruise control. It is also made with standard safety and security features. In terms of braking, it utilizes discs for both front and rear. Its braking setup is given anti-lock and assistance systems. That said, this SUV is created with a balance of safety and great off-roading capability. 

It is still too early to tell if the all-new Mitsubishi Destinator is truly a game changer when it comes to driving on rough and uneven Philippine and ASEAN roads. But, considering its starting price, it is already more practical than other locally-available vehicles in its class.
