The Chevrolet Venture is a 3 or 4-door, 7-seater passenger minivan that was sold in the market a decade ago. This car was based on GM’s U-body platform and was smaller in size than its full-size stable-mate the Chevrolet Caprice. In the United States, it was offered in four trim levels- base, LS, LT and LTV. The Venture was Chevy’s attempt at conquering the minivan segment before it was pulled out of the market because of its lackluster sales performance.
This minivan was produced between 1997 and 2005 by General Motors. The Venture first appeared as a concept car in 1988 and featured panoramic visibility thanks to its removable all-glass roof. In 2005, this car was replaced by the Chevrolet Uplander- Chevy’s attempt at creating a crossover minivan using the Uplander’s body. All Venture models used four-speed automatic transmission, and the Venture was one of the few minivans that had an 8-passenger seating capacity because most autos in this category could only accommodate 7 persons. The Venture and the other members of the Chevrolet minivan family were powered by GM’s 3.4-L LA1 V6, rated at 180 hp (134kw). After 1999, slight modifications were made to produce an extra 5 hp (4kW).
During the late 1990s, the Venture was among the top nameplates in the passenger minivan segment. Sharp steering, nimble handling and a lot of features have delighted many families. The availability of optional mid-row captain chairs and its eight-passenger capacity further solidified its position.
