Kia trucks and buses for sale in the Philippines

Kia is a Korean brand of automobile known for manufacturing passenger and commercial vehicles. In the Philippines, it has established itself as an affordable alternative to the mainstream Japanese brands. Its wide line-up of vehicles appeals to budget conscious Filipino consumers who want more bang for their buck.

The automobile firm got its name from the Korean word “kia” which means “rising out of Asia.” Kia is considered the oldest car company from South Korea. It began operating on June 9, 1944 as a manufacturer of bicycle parts and steel tubing. It began building motorcycles in 1957, trucks by 1962 and cars in 1974.

Technology and innovation

Kia often shares its technology with its co-Korean car manufacturer Hyundai. One such advancement is the world-renowned Theta engine which is also used by other brands such as Mitsubishi and Chrysler. According to Kia Motors, the firm has received more than $57 million in royalties from the said companies.

Kia is also very keen on the aerodynamics of their vehicles and even invested $45 million on an aero acoustic wind tunnel which it says is the largest in Asia and is the only one available in its home country. The Korean car company also has a 5,105 (3,500 soccer fields) acre facility where vehicles are put through exhausting test drives to ensure their design are optimized.

Popular Kia truck and bus models

The Kia Bongo Silent is a pickup truck that is equipped with a 4-cylinder diesel engine and has a rear-wheel drivetrain. It is grouped under the K-Series or Kia Besta platform which also includes van variants. Its fourth and latest generation was released in 2004 and has been revised to include a common rail option that makes it more environmentally friendly.

Like the Silent, the Kia Bongo Frontier also comes from the Besta product line. The only difference is that the Frontier comes from the older third generation of this vehicle which was first released in 1997. It is considered the first car from Kia to be exported to South America and Europe.

The Kia Granbird is a commercial bus that can seat close to 50 passengers. It was based on the Hino S’elega platform and was first introduced on the market in 1994. Its second and latest generation was released in 2008 and includes a few cosmetic updates. It is sold only in selected markets.

Newer commercial vehicles from Kia are placed under the K-series, such as the Kia K2700 which uses a 2.7 liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 79 horsepower and 165 Nm of torque. It is available in a single cab aluminium van, a single cab dropside, a double cab dropside and a high side pickup with roof.
