New and Used Mazda Bongo for Sale Philippines

Mazda Bongo for sale Philippines | Mazda Bongo price Philippines | Blue Mazda Bongo

The Mazda Bongo is a van-type vehicle manufactured by Japanese vehicle maker Mazda since 1966. Currently on its fourth generation, the van has also been called the Mazda Access, Mazda E-Series, and the Ford Econovan in the different markets it is sold in. It is a popular commercial vehicle in the Visayas area, especially in Cebu City. The Mazda Bongo however, is not an official Mazda Philippines release. Most of the units came into the country by way of the robust secondhand import market, and are likely converted from RHD to LHD.

The Mazda Bongo Philippines is available in long and short wheelbase variants. For those who demand a larger load carrying capacity, the extended length will be the one to choose. Less-demanding buyers will likely be satisfied with the shorter length van.

Mazda Bongo Review in the Philippines

Mazda Bongo Specs and Performance

The short wheelbase Bongo is powered by a 1.8-liter fuel injection gas engine that generates 90 hp and 138 Nm. Meanwhile, the long wheelbase variant comes furnished with either a 2.0-liter gas or 2.5-liter diesel engine. The latter provides 174 Nm of economical torque.

Depending on the model chosen, the ride quality of the Mazda Bongo can range from acceptable cool to downright basic. The Bongo received a revised chassis and steering system in its third generation starting 1983, making the van more responsive and agile. Most of the Bongo vans sold in the Philippine market are from this generation.

Mazda Bongo Fuel Consumption

Fuel economy is one of the biggest issues of the Bongo, as fuel consumption averages border on the dismal. However, there’s a good chance that the secondhand Mazda Bongo for sale that you’re looking at has a replaced engine, since as mentioned, most Bongos being sold in the country are over three decades old. The Mazda Bongo fuel economy ratings listed below are for the originally equipped engines.

Second hand Mazda Bongo fuel consumption:

  • Mazda Bongo 2002: 10.5 l/100km average rating
  • Mazda Bongo 2001: 11.8 l/100km average rating
  • Mazda Bongo 2000: 12.4 l/100km average rating
  • Mazda Bongo 1999: 11.2 l/100km average rating

Mazda Bongo Features

Mazda Bongo Convenience and Entertainment Features

The Mazda Bongo van isn’t really big on driver comfort. Instead, it’s about ferrying cargo safely to its destination. The Bongo occupies the space between minivans and medium-duty truck, and for its intended purpose, it can serve you well. Though basic, the Bongo does come with the following comfort features:

  • AM/FM radio with cassette and clock
  • All door central locking
  • Remote fuel lid release
  • Assist grips
  • Driver’s side door pocket
  • 4-speed air conditioner with side demister

Mazda Bongo Safety Features

Three-point seatbelts for all occupants are standard in all models. Although a driver airbag is equipped in the vehicle, front passenger, side impact, and curtain airbags are not. Below is the complete list of safety features for the Mazda Bongo:

  • Driver airbag
  • Fuel empty warning light
  • Side impact beams
  • Partition bar
  • Rear demister
  • High mount stop light

Mazda Bongo Design

Mazda Bongo Interior

The Mazda Bongo is a very traditional cargo van. Built on a body-on-frame platform, the Bongo offers two lengths and enough capacity to haul the cargo equivalent of 15 people. To elaborate, traditional here means hard, cheap plastics abound, and the interior is as uncomfortable as ever. As you can see given the examples below, the Mazda Bongo interior is one vehicle that’s extremely light on tech and features.

  • Cloth seats with headrests
  • Cupholder and tray on seat back
  • Vinyl trim
  • Rear side window guard rail
  • Remote fuel lid release
  • Tachometer

Mazda Bongo Exterior

The Mazda Bongo follows the design aesthetic of its time, which meant it was boxy and sharp-edged. Aerodynamics wasn’t a popular term back then, and so the Mazda Bongo was as bulky and heavy as its counterparts. Think Mitsubishi L300, and you have a pretty good idea what the Mazda Bongo looks like. Here are some of the Bongo’s prominent exterior features:

  • Single side door
  • Body-colored front and rear bumpers
  • Front and rear mud flaps
  • Body side protection
  • Sliding rear windows
  • Frontal collision protection frame

Mazda Bongo Color Options

The official Mazda Bongo comes in only three colors, which are listed below. However, since most of the Bongos sold in the secondhand market are converted, they have also been painted a different color for two reasons—to make them look like new, and to cover up any repairs made to the body. With that in mind, be sure to inspect the Mazda Bongo thoroughly to confirm the quality of its build.

  • Nifty Red
  • Cool White
  • Highlight Silver Metallic
