100 e-Trike Units Seen to Boost Malolos City's Tourism
At least 100 units of electric tricycles (e-trike) will soon be seen roaming around the city of Malolos in Bulacan, particularly in the historical and heritage sites here.
Outgoing Mayor Christian D. Natividad said on Monday the e-trikes were donated by the Department of Energy (DOE) and will be assigned to the Malolos City Tourism Office to boost the local tourism industry.
"The 100 e-trikes are currently parked at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center garage where it is individually under review or check-up and will be turned over to the Malolos City Tourism Office," Natividad told the media.
Direk Armando P. Sta. Ana, Malolos City tourism officer, said the e-trikes would provide convenience to tourists visiting the city's historical sites.
Sta. Ana said tourists who are dropped off at the century-old Barasoain Church can take e-trikes going to Casa Real, the Kamestisuhan District, houses of Kadalagahan ng Malolos, and the Cathedral-Basilica of Malolos.
Since 2011, the Malolos City Tourism Office has been offering a city's Heritage Tourism Package which includes 'Lakbay-History' from Barasoain to the different areas of Malolos.
The DOE turned over the 100 e-trikes on May 31 as part of the 3,000 e-trikes the national government has distributed to the different regions of the country under the DOE's Market Transformation program funded by PHP1.7-billion loan agreement with Asian Development Bank.
It features a robust body and a strong motor that can transport up to six passengers, including the driver at full load.
