1st registered vintage car under RA 11698 gets license plate
Prior to the resignation of Jose Arturo Tugade, the Land Transportation Office has issued the license plate to the first vintage car registered since the Republic Act (RA) 11698 (also known as the Vintage Vehicle Regulations Act) was signed.

The motoring-related law was signed last March.To note, the plate was handed over some two months after law was signed, with its IRR implemented starting April 17.
In a recent post over social media, the agency shared that its then chief had turned over the license plate to the vehicle owner during a simple ceremony recently held at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City.
According to Tugade, the aforementioned recipient’s vehicle passed the minimum requirements stated under the law, which guarantees its roadworthiness. He also pointed out that the appreciation of vintage vehicles is also considered a contribution to the history of vehicles in the country.
“With the passage of the Vintage Vehicle Regulation Act, the LTO aims to register roadworthy vintage vehicles while also encouraging owners to take greater responsibility for maintaining their vehicles in order to preserve their historical value,” Tugade shared.
Under RA 11698, a vintage car was described as a motor vehicle that is at least 40 years of age from its manufacturing date with its engine, chassis, steering assembly, and suspension assembly are either original or authentic.
Aside from that, the body of the vehicle must not have undergone major changes or modifications in terms of its overall appearance.
