2022 Explorer, Bronco Sport earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards

Two of Ford’s SUVs earned the highest possible rating issued by the independent, non-profit group: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ award.

Vehicles that are subjected to the test must get Good ratings in six crashworthiness assessments, Advanced or Superior ratings in crash prevention — vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian — evaluations, and Acceptable or Good ratings in headlight tests to earn a Top Safety Pick+ award.

The 2022 Ford Explorer scored a Good rating in all the crashworthiness tests, Superior in most crash avoidance and mitigation assessments, and an Acceptable headlight rating.

The 2022 Ford Explorer sits alongside fellow Top Safety Pick+ award winners in the midsize SUV category such as the 2022 Hyundai Palisade, 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2022 Mazda CX-9, 2022 Nissan Murano, 2022 Subaru Ascent, 2022 Toyota Highlander, and the 2022 VW ID.4.

In the US, the 2022 Ford Explorer also comes with AdvanceTrack with Roll Stability Control, Front Passenger Knee Airbag, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tether Anchors for Children), Safety Canopy System, and SOS Post-Crash Alert System as standard.

Similarly, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport small SUV gets a Good rating in the crashworthiness tests, Superior in all crash avoidance and mitigation assessments, and a Good headlight rating.

Other small SUV Top Safety Pick+ award winners include the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, 2022 Hyundai Tuscon, 2022 Kia Seltos, 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, and the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge, among others.

Five other vehicles in the Ford showroom earned the IIH Top Safety Pick+ award including Mustang Mach-E, Edge, Escape, F-150 crew cab, and F-150 extended cab.
