BGC Implements New One-Way Traffic Scheme
Since 12:01 AM of Monday, September 17, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) has started its latest move to address the worsening traffic situation by implementing its new one-way scheme in the area.
The newest traffic solution covers 30th Street, Rizal Drive, 28th Street, and 11th Avenue for the East-West Route while the North-South Route is comprised of 7th Avenue, Federacion Drive, 9th Avenue, 34th Street and 8th Avenue.
"We are hoping to make the transition to the new one-way scheme as smooth as possible," said Bonifacio Estate Services Corporation (BESC) General Manager, Jun Galvez. "In the past few weeks, BGC has really stepped up its information drive to let motorists know of the changes being implemented."
BESC Development Control Manager, Ernest Pascual, added that the one-way traffic loops that cover north to south and east to west of the interior roads of BGC is eyed to improve traffic by around 10-15 percent, depending on the volume of the vehicles that would use the said thoroughfares.
He also said that the implementation of the one-way scheme--to be monitored and applied round-the-clock--increases the holding area of vehicles, with a longer period of travel time and lessened phases of intersections.
To guide motorists in the new traffic scheme within the said area, they have place additional marshals and on-ground signage. Those using the navigation app Waze need not to worry as BGC teamed up with the mobile phone application's developers for traffic rerouting.
According to Pascual, around 37 intersections marshals are manning the area.
The statement said that as part of the BGC Masterplan, the one-way scheme is intended to address the large volume of vehicles that go to and pass through BGC.
Asked whether they would put more one-way schemes in the area, he said that they have no plans of adding more as of the moment.
According to the BESC, the one-way traffic scheme "is seen as the most efficient traffic circulation scheme for the city's street grid network because apart from maximizing the width of the street, it reduces the conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians at intersections and minimizes the time that they are stopped at intersections."
The said scheme will go hand-in-hand with the existing wheel clamping and towing operations to rid BGC's main streets of obstructions. Those looking for parking slots may seek the assistance of the BGC app downloadable on Android or iOS devices.
Originally scheduled for August 28, the implementation of BGC's one-way traffic scheme was moved to September 17 to give more time to study its effectiveness.
