BYD adds eMAX9 DM-i to PH lineup

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines has formally introduced the all-new eMAX9 dual-mode intelligent (DM-i) for the local market.

Unveiled at the ongoing 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), the Chinese automaker’s latest product is eyed to meet the needs of customers looking for an environmentally friendly, fuel efficient, and luxurious people hauler.

 Here’s what the Toyota Alphard Hybrid-contending BYD eMAX 9 DM-i offers to its clients.

In terms of styling, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i sports a boxy shape with a reasonable number of body lines complemented by the large grille, sharp LED headlamps, chrome window frame trimmings, and a distinct taillight bar.

Interior

For its cabin, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i comes with a roomy seven-seater layout — with electronic adjustment for all seats. All chairs are covered in Nappa leather.

Its third row can be stored with just a flick of a button to give more cargo space when needed, while the captain chairs in the middle row have massage and ottoman functionality as well as folding tables.

Meanwhile, both the front and second row seats feature ventilation, lumbar support, and adjustable headrest side wings.

• Refrigerator (located at the rear-most section of the front cabin’s center console) 
• Triple-zone automatic climate control system
• 15.6-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity (linked to a 12-piece speaker system)

Powertrain

Under the BYD eMAX 9 DM-I’s bonnet is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, mated to an electric motor that can deliver 268 horsepower (hp) and 315 Newton-meters (Nm).

Such a set-up allows the vehicle to accelerate 100 kilometers per hour from rest in as fast as 8.4 seconds.

The aforementioned powertrain is paired with either a 20.4 or 36.6 kilowatt-hour (kWh) Blade Battery, depending on the trim. This gives the BYD EMAX9 DM-i an fumes-free range of up to 170 kilometers (kms) and overall range of around 1,000 kms.

Further, the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i features a fast direct current (DC) charging port that can juice up the battery from 30-80 percent in just 30 minutes and a regenerative braking function with selectable levels of intensity.  It can also act as a huge power bank as it also has a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system.

Other technologies

The latest addition to the BYD’s DM-i roster in the Philippines is fitted with eight airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, traction control, electronic stability control, anti-rollover control, and hill-hold control, which is reinforced with the following driver-assistive technologies under the DiPilot.

• Eight sensors (four front, four rear)
• Adaptive cruise control
• Rear cross traffic alert
• Rear cross traffic braking
• Lane departure assist
• Blind spot monitoring
• Door opening warning
• Intelligent high beam control

The BYD eMAX 9 DM-i can be had in any of its two trims, Advanced and Premium, at the following prices:

Advanced	P2.678 million
Premium	P2.998 million

Each purchase of the new BYD nameplate is packaged with a portable charging cable and a wall-mounted charger.
