Caltex marketer Chevron PH shares value of perseverance to scholars

Learners from Messy Bessy appreciated the motivational talk with Chevron speakers and volunteers as they miss the feeling of coming...

Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) — marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants in the country — has shared to the scholars of Messy Bessy the value of striving hard to reach their goals through the “Your Gift of Time is Priceless” motivational talk and career orientation program.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Who are the speakers in the "Your Gift of Time is Priceless" career orientation program?

Chevron Global Sales Organization Capability Senior Specialist Ces Sobreviñas, Chevron Auditor Luchie Maja, Chevron Operation Coordinator Gi Tan, as well as Former Department of Education Undersecretary and Action for Economic Reform Trustee Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan served as speakers in the program.
  • How many attended the program?

A total of 27 scholars and 17 volunteers attended the activity.
  • In a statement, CPI said that a total of 27 scholars from the social enterprise that helps underserved youth and its partner enterprise, House Foundation, as well as 17 volunteers from Caltex Makati Credit Cooperative (CMCC) attended the activity together with several Chevron executives.

The seminar — the latest initiative of Chevron’s first live Volunteer Week since the pandemic — aims to motivate and inspire the disadvantaged youth by helping them develop the right mindset and guide them in their chosen career paths.

Chevron speakers talked about how to overcome failures and stress

On the other hand, some of the 17 CMCC volunteers served as facilitators and mentors during the seminar as they shared their personal experiences and entertained personal and career questions from the students.

CPI explained that its annual Volunteer Week is focused on impacting the lives of children, the youth and marginalized groups as well as the environment.

“The value of human energy is best expressed through selfless acts of volunteerism. With this seminar and all our upcoming activities, we continue to pursue and reaffirm our commitment to support students and create opportunities to boost their chances of succeeding,” Chevron Corporate Affairs Advisor Joel Gaviola was quoted as saying.

The speakers in the event were Chevron Global Sales Organization Capability Senior Specialist Ces Sobreviñas, Chevron Auditor Luchie Maja, Chevron Operation Coordinator Gi Tan, as well as Former Department of Education Undersecretary and Action for Economic Reform Trustee Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan.

A question-and-answer portion was given at the end of every speakers' sharing of insight, where students freely expressed their opinions, raised questions and shared personal stories relevant to the discussion.

“Partnering with multinational companies like Caltex and Chevron will definitely enable us to broaden our market reach at the same time pursue our goals and create a better impact on a greater number of people,” Messy Bessy Youth Development Officer Oliver Beltran said.

Atty. Nepomuceno A. Malaluan, the Undersecretary and Chief of staff of the Office of the Secretary gave encouraging words to Messy Bessy learners

“Events like these are important because most of our learners are feeling down and unmotivated. Many of them are having difficulties landing a job. The talks not only remind them that there are people willing to help but also inspire them to continue moving forward to reach their dreams. I’d like to thank Chevron and CMCC for this initiative because it may be a simple talk to others, but I can see that it’s going to have a lasting impact on our learners,” House Foundation Youth Development Officer Roberto Reyes IV added.

CPI and CMCC are committed to contributing to the progress of the communities where they operate as reflected in the annual Volunteer Week.
