Changing your tires

After driving your new car for some time, the tires will wear out and begin to tear. This means it is time to replace them. When replacing tires, you should try to keep to the same size and type of tire and preferably the same brand and tread pattern. Otherwise, you could face issues such as increased tire noise and reduced handling. Having said that, a professional may offer a different size or type of tire, which can reduce tire noise and improve handling.

Rear tires

A good place to start is to read your car owner’s manual which will offer specific advice related to your car. In general, it is advised to use the newest tires on the rear of the car. Nobody wants to over-steer in wet conditions, and so if you replace the front tires it makes sense to have the rear tires moved to the front and the new tires fitted to the rear. It is far more difficult to control a car with a damaged rear tire and tires with deep treads are less likely to puncture.

Replacement wheels and tires

When you purchase a new car it is normal to assume that it comes with a full size spare tire. But you may find that this is not always the case. In fact, it is becoming increasingly evident that car manufacturers are providing emergency tire sealants to replace the full spare tire. However, if you do insist on a full replacement wheel and tire, then speak to your dealer. You might find that they offer a standard spare wheel. But be warned, you may have to pay more.
