Construction works on bypass road to Calbayog Airport begin
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the initial phase of civil works for the new bypass road leading to Calbayog Airport has started.

The project is aimed at improving the socio-economic status in the area and boost tourism industry in Western Samar.In a statement, the department shared that construction of a two-lane, 259.5-meter-long and 6.7-meter-wide paved road starts at Barangay Trinidad connecting the diversion road in Barangay Cagsalaosao, Calbayog City, Samar.
The P31.76-million project, which also comes with a 719.9-meter-long riprap, will also have 27 solar LED lights.
The DPWH shared that the entire road project will be 1.19 kilometers long, with a 1,270-lineal meter drainage structure and 8,128 square meters of slope protection.
The scope of works also include a 385-meter embankment and 44 reinforced concrete pipe culverts to allow water to flow freely, given that the area is situated along a rice field.
Once completed, the multi-year project will serve as the main road for locals and tourists once a portion of Daang Maharlika, which is part of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) jurisdiction, is closed.
Further, the project, undertaken by the DPWH Samar First District Engineering Office, the project is aimed at improving the socio-economic status in the area and boost tourism industry in Western Samar.
