DepEd warns public school teachers of ‘Labas-Casa’ scheme

The Department of Education (DepEd) revealed that a deceptive auto loan scheme has been targeting public school teachers.

According to the country’s primary education division, teachers experiencing financial difficulties have been enticed to apply for a car loan in exchange for a certain amount of money, including the downpayment for the unit.

To make the offer more appealing, public school teachers are promised a passive income in a transport network vehicle service as an incentive if the loan is approved.

Little do they know, the perpetrators have connections to car dealerships and bank employees who will facilitate a pre-arranged loan approval.

Once the cars are mortgaged and turned over to the unsuspecting victims, the perpetrators then abandon them and give the teachers more financial woes.

Per DepEd, there are now 29 cases filed against the crooks. The fraudulent scheme — DepEd pointed out — originated in Pampanga according to a recent investigation.

“DepEd shall continue its close coordination with the authorities to apprehend the individuals behind this and further protect the welfare of teachers against such illegal activities. The Department will also conduct debriefing, counseling, and psychological first aid to the teachers victimized by this scheme,” DepEd wrote in a press release.
