DPWH Completes Concreting of PAMANA Road in Occidental Mindoro
Far-flung communities in Sitio Apas, Mananao, Barangay Wawa, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro are now accessible through the road concreting project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) funded under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser of the Peace Process (OPAPP).
Citing a report from DPWH Occidental Mindoro District Engineer Josefino M. Melgar, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the PHP98.5-million Apias-Mananao project covers the two-lane concreting of the scenic 2.36-kilometer road connected to the Calapan North Road, which also serves as access road to the famous tourist destination of Agbalala Falls.
"The main purpose of this project is to extend development to inaccessible, isolated areas to help build rapport between the conflict-affected areas and the government," said Villar.
Prior to the completion of the project in July 2019, stakeholders must ride a motorboat to acquire and deliver goods and resources to the barangay, which are deemed riskier than travel by land.
"With the newly-concreted road, residents and locals will now experience seamless travel, while at the same time, help boost the agricultural growth and socio-economic status of the province, and encourage peace all throughout Occidental Mindoro," added Villar.
