DPWH to Tweak QC Circle's Sloped Lanes for Flood Prevention

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Thursday, July 18, its plans to update the sloped lanes on Elliptical Road in the Quezon City Memorial Circle, as these have been deemed to be the primary cause of flooding in the area.

In a press conference in Makati, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is scheduled to repair the sloped inner lanes--from the fourth lane to the eighth--starting next Friday, July 26.

The Elliptical Road has a total of 10 lanes and surrounds the Quezon City Memorial Circle Park.

Garcia thanked the DPWH for its responsiveness to fix the issue.

"Ito elevation niyan, ang gagawin, ipapantay na 'yung gitna. 'Yang gitna na yan, lima," Garcia said, referring to the elevated five inner lanes to be leveled off.

The MMDA official said that only small sections of the roundabout will be closed off, and the leveling will only be done on weekends to prevent traffic congestion while the project is ongoing.

"Isasara yung isang lane tuwing Friday ng 11 PM and they'll make sure na by Monday, 5 AM, bukas na ulit," he said.

Garcia added it may take the project a year to be completed because of the broken work schedule.

Aside from the leveling project, the construction of a Metro Rail Transit 7 (MRT-7) station is currently underway in the area.
