Duterte Inaugurates Bypass Road Project in Ilocos Sur
President Rodrigo Duterte has inaugurated the PHP717.67-million Candon Bypass Road Project situated at Barangay Oaig-Daya in Ilocos Sur, yesterday, July 24.
The four-lane, 7.319-kilometer bypass road project decongests the traffic along Manila North Road bound for Manila and to the northern towns of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra.
It also reduces travel time from Santa Lucia, Ilocos Sur to Santiago, Ilocos Sur from 40 minutes to 20 minutes and benefits at least 13,000 motorists per day.
The project envisions to promote the economic activities on the eastern part of Candon City by accelerating the economic interplay between the urban and rural areas within and outside the province of Ilocos Sur and its neighboring provinces.
According to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, the multi-million peso project was implemented in five phases, including the payment of the road right-of-way.
Aside from the concrete runway, the other components of the project include the construction of the four-lane Oaig-Daya Bridge with a 30-lineal meter length, the construction of four waiting sheds, and the installation of road signages and pavement markings.
Work on the project started on April 15, 2015, and was completed on April 22, 2019.
The bypass road project traverses eight barangays in Candon City from south to north, namely Ayudante, Parioc 1st, Calaoan, Oaig-Daya, Bagani Gabor, Bagani Campo, Bagani Ubbog and Tablac.
