Geely, Baidu ink partnership for new EV firm
Chinese automotive manufacturer Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) has recently forged a partnership with search engine, information-centered internet platform, and AI firm Baidu to create a new electric vehicle company.
In its statement, the leading privately-owned auto group in China announced that the partnership will be centered “on the joint research and development and production of intelligent and connected electric vehicles.”
Such partnership will involve the use of Geely Holding’s recently announced pure electric architecture— Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA)—which is said to be the first open-sourced electric vehicle architecture in the world.
The SEA, which was unveiled in September last year, will be utilized because of its “leading integration of hardware, software and wider integrational capabilities in next-generation models, reflecting customer preferences and requirements for intelligent electrified vehicles.”
Meanwhile, Baidu’s expertise in the intelligent transportation with eight years of experience is also eyed to contribute to the newly-inked partnership, meaning the new EV company will have Baidu’s full portfolio of technologies, including Apollo autonomous driving, DuerOS for Apollo, and Baidu Maps.
