Hyundai Motor Group exec receives new award

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung has been hailed as MotorTrend’s Person of the Year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When did Euisun Chung first appear in the MotorTrend Power List?

The Hyundai Motor Group executive chair joined the power rankings in 2018.
  • Who are the other members of the firm that joined the MotorTrend Power List?

The MotorTrend’s Power List also include Hyundai Motor Group President and Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke; Hyundai Motor Company President and Global Chief Operating Officer Jose Muñoz; Hyundai Global Design Center Executive Vice President and Head SangYup Lee; and Kia Global Design Center Executive Vice President and Head Karim Habib.
  • In a statement, the parent company of both Hyundai and Kia shared that Chung was recognized for leading the company “into a new age.”

The award also highlighted the quality of vehicles developed under Chung’s watch. “The vehicles coming out of Hyundai Motor Group are notable for their eye-catching design, quality, clever packaging, and good value – and they are proving increasingly difficult to beat,” MotorTrend shared.

To note, Hyundai’s Chung position in the MotorTrend Power List has risen during the past five year, from being number 12 in 2018 to November 5 in 2022 and now at the top spot for this year.

The aforementioned honor follows the list of awards that MotorTrend bestowed to the vehicles that are under the South Korean conglomerate, which include the Ioniq 5 and the Genesis G90.  “Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia have been hitting balls out of the park repeatedly,” MotorTrend said.

Aside from that, Chung was commended for his “big-picture” thinking and his ability to initiate solutions that were traditionally regarded beyond the bounds of the automotive industry.

“As Executive Chair, Chung is putting his stamp on the company’s future. His grasp of where the world and the industry are headed, combined with a desire to make the planet a better place, spurs a broader mission to become a leader in electric vehicles and advanced mobility,” MotorTrend noted.

“In that sense, he does his father and grandfather proud, pushing the entire Hyundai Motor Group to new levels. The man and his vision, and the juggernaut that his company is becoming, loom loud and large. For his vision and leadership, then, Euisun Chung is our 2023 MotorTrend Person of the Year,” Motortrend added.

Also in MotorTrend’s Power List are Hyundai Motor Group President and Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke; Hyundai Motor Company President and Global Chief Operating Officer Jose Muñoz; Hyundai Global Design Center Executive Vice President and Head SangYup Lee; and Kia Global Design Center Executive Vice President and Head Karim Habib.

Apart from the new award, Chung was also named as Newsweek’s “Visionary of the Year '' at the inaugural World’s Greatest Auto Disrupters event last year and has received the Issigonis Trophy at the 2021 Autocar Awards.

Early this month, Chung underscored his commitment to the success of the Group.

“We must take on challenges based on trust, and the positive results must lead to even stronger trust. No great product or technology is complete without the trust of our customers,” Chung said.

"Quality is a priority for all of us. From product planning to design, production, sales, and after-sales maintenance, all teams and employees must place quality and the customer as the top priority. We must all go above and beyond to earn the respect and loyalty of our customers,” he added.
