Kia global sales grow by 14.4% in May

Kia revealed that the company’s overall global sales increased by 14.4 percent for the month of May, compared to the same period in 2022.

The South Korean carmaker posted a total worldwide sales of 268,593 units last month.

Of the said figure, 50,275 vehicles were sold in Korea while 217,772 automobiles were delivered overseas. The remaining 546 cars, Kia pointed out, were special-purpose vehicles.

In comparison, Kia’s May 2022 sales totaled 234,729 units. Of the said number, 45,577 units came from Korea while 188,994 units were from its total overall sales overseas. Meanwhile, the remaining 158 units were from special-purpose vehicles.

The top sellers for May, domestically, were the Kia Carnival multi-purpose vehicle with 6,695 units sold, the Sorento sport utility vehicle (SUV) with 6,499 units sold, and the Sportage SUV with 6,185 units sold.

Outside of Korea, Kia’s best-sellers were the Sportage and Seltos SUVs as well as the K3 (sold in the Philippines as the Forte) sedan. According to the carmaker, the said models sold 39,774 units, 20,553 units, and 15,483 units respectively.

In addition, Kia also stated that its annual sales target for 2030 is 4.3 million units. Of these, 1.6 million units will be all-electric vehicles.

“The company will continue to accelerate its electrification efforts and its transition into a sustainable mobility solutions provider by introducing innovative mobility products and services,” Kia wrote in a press release.

“The company will continue to expand sales of its all-electric EV6, a model that was hailed as the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year in January. Kia will also build on EV sales momentum through the introduction of the new EV9, the company’s first three-row seat electric flagship SUV, which will soon roll out in the market,” added Kia.

In the Philippines, Kia is expanding its reach not only by bolstering its lineup but also by opening new dealerships. Recently, the company opened its 43rd and 44th branches with more to come in the following months.
