Lamborghini Miura SVR Comes Back to Life

One of the most iconic and badass Lamborghini ever built has rise up from its grave. Say hello to the rebirth of the Miura SVR. There were only 763 Miuras produced by Lamborghini between 1966 and 1972 at its plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. These rare Italian machines have undergone several evolutions which includes the Miura S, SV, Jota, and SVJ. However, the Miura SVR is the rarest of them all because it is a one-off car model. A little background, Lamborghini test driver Bob Wallace tweaked the standard Miura into a race-ready car that gave birth to the Jota. However, the Jota was completely destroyed in an accident. Lamborghini’s clients were saddened by the Jota’s short-lived life and as a result they wanted the Italian car maker to build a new Miura. With this, Lamborghini built a few Miura SVJ models. The Miura that you see here comes with chassis number 3781, engine number 2511, and body number 383. It was originally a Miura S version painted in Lamborghini’s Verde Miura that was delivered to the company’s dealership in Turin on November 30, 1986. After changing hands eight times in Italy, the vehicle was bought in 1974 by German Heinz Straber. Straber took the car back to Sant’Agata and asked Lamborghini to transform it into a Miura SVR—a job that required the Italian car company 18 months of work at that time. Then, the car was sold to Hiromitsu Ito and the Miura SVR made its way to Japan. The car was a sensation in Japan as it was the model for the 1:18 diecast toy and it was depicted in Japanese comic book Manga. As years passed, the Miura SVR’s fame sort of dwindled down--no one knows exactly what happened to the car in the past decades. Good thing, the Miura SVR found its way back home and Lamborghini’s restoration division, Polo Storico, has resurrected the rare Italian machine. Polo Storico shared that the vehicle arrived in Sant’Agata in pieces, but all parts were there. The team took 19 months to fully restore the Miura SVR.
