Lawmaker pushes for license revocation, fines, vs. 'lane splitting' riders

Per HB No. 1419, violators will be fined P1,500 for the first offense, P3,000 for the second offense, and P5,000 plus revocation of license for the third offense.The lawmaker, who also filed HB No. 1251, wants “passing in between vehicles moving in the same direction” to be deemed a prohibited act.
Per HB 1419, “no person while operating a motorcycle (any two or three-wheeled motor vehicle) in a highway shall traverse in between two vehicles except to overtake. Any motorcycle stopping or passing through vehicles during traffic on a broken white line in highways shall likewise be considered lane splitting.”
Those found in violation of the suggested bill will be fined P1,500 for the first offense, P3,000 for the second offense, and P5,000 for the third offense. In addition, a motorist committing the “would-be” prohibited act will also face revocation of his or her license.
Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito, a motorcycle enthusiast, expressed his disapproval of both HB No. 1419 and HB No. 32.
