LTFRB Approves PHP1 Fare Hike for Jeepneys in NCR, Regions 3 and 4

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a provisional fare increase of PHP1 peso for the first four kilometers for public utility jeepneys plying routes in the National Capital Region and Regions 3 and 4.

The fare increase was approved last night, July 4, during the board's regularly-scheduled meeting. I-ACT spokesperson Atty. Aileen Lizada cautioned though that the fare increase will only take effect once the LTFRB itself issues a written order to make it formal and final, which means PUJ drivers and operators are not yet supposed to charge their passengers the new fare. I-ACT (Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (i-ACT) is the joint government organization, which the LTFRB is part of, that's tasked to improve and resolve the traffic situation in the country.

"Dapat lumabas ang order (The order has to be issued) before the same can be implemented," said Lizada.

Though Lizada didn't mention when the signed order will be released, various media outlets have reported that it is expected to issued by this afternoon, July 5.

So if your jeepney driver in your daily commute this morning asks that the fare has incresed by PHP1 peso, tell him that what he's doing is illegal and report him to the LTRFB's hotline at 1342 or email the agency at complaint.ltfrb.gov.ph@gmail.com. You can also call the LTFRB's Public Assistance and Complaints Desk at 426-2515 or 426-2534 or monitor its social media pages on Twitter and Facebook.
