In its bid to fast-track the distribution of license plates, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has started using the second automated plate-making machine.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

The government agency now has two.
  • What is the second plate-making machine for?

It is dedicated to manufacture motorcycle license plates.
  • In a statement, the government agency acquired the latest plate-making machine to specifically produce motorcycle license plates.

The second plate-producing machine at the LTO facility in Quezon City can produce 450 motorcycle plates in an hour (3,600 plates in an eight-hour shift). It will be manned by two agency personnel and is expected to manufacture 158,400 motorcycle plates a month on a two-shift per day basis.

According to Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, the new motorcycle plate-making machine will address the backlog issues pertaining to motorcycle license plates issuance.

"First time natin nagkaroon ng high-tech na robot na gumagawa ng plaka, first time din natin nagkaroon ng dalawaHindi na 'ho manu-mano ang paggawa ng ating plaka. Sa tulong nitong IDE-Robot, mas mapapabilis pa natin ang distribusyon ng plaka para sa ating mga motorista (Aside from having a high-tech robot that makes license plates for the first time, this is also the first time that the country had two [plate-making machines>. Our license plates will no longer be produced manually. With the help of this IDE-Robot, we can speed up the plates’ distribution for our motorists),” Tugade said, as he commended LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante.

For his part, Galvante explained that the newest plate-making machine will augment the capacity of the plate-making facility to ensure a more efficient and swift motor vehicle and motorcycle plates production.

“And as we produce, we will continue to distribute so that we can provide plates for all registered vehicles,” Galvante noted.

The LTO established the plate-making facility in April 2018 to expedite the production and distribution of license plates, which was outsourced in the past.
