The preliminary batch of Mazda MX-5 Miata Club Philippines (MCP) 25th Anniversary Edition has been turned over to its designated owners.
The turnover ceremony for the roadster — first displayed at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) — was done at the Mazda Center of Excellence in Cabuyao, Laguna last Sunday, October 30, 2022.
Eight of supposed 25 new owners of the limited-run Mazda MX-5 received the keys for their respective units. The car number 001 of the special fleet went to Eddie Salonga, MCP’s founding president.
“It is truly heart-warming to see how the love of one car, the MX-5, has brought many people together,” Mazda Philippines President Steven Tan was quoted as saying.
“It’s not just a testament to the timelessness of the MX-5’s qualities, but today, we also see the continued love and passion the Miata Club of the Philippines has shown. Truly, they have helped cement the MX-5 as a cultural icon,” he added.
According to the company, the Mazda MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition was created to celebrate the brand’s special relationship with the MCP—the oldest single-made car club in the Philippines.
To note, MCP was founded in 1997 and now has 150 members.
Just like every variant of the nameplate, the Mazda MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition is equipped with a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine that has a peak performance of 181 horsepower and 205Nm of pulling power. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox (either the manual and automatic kind).
The Mazda MX-5 also has the Kinetic Posture Control (KPC) system that applies a small amount of braking force to the inner or unloaded rear wheel when cornering. This suppresses body roll when attacking turns and assures unpolluted handling.
Further, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 has an array of comfort features such as black leather seats, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a Mazda Connect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a nine-speaker Bose sound system. Providing additional safety are its Smart City Brake Support and Lane Departure Warning technologies.
Distinguishing elements of the MCP 25th Anniversary Edition to the other Mazda MX-5 trims are the Platinum Quartz Metallic exterior color and Navy Blue soft top combination. The Navy Blue accents can also be found on the side mirrors and roll hoops.
The limited-edition model sits on Satin Silver 17-inch alloy wheels.
For its interior, the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition is furnished with a Sterling Silver Mazda Connect Commander knob and a Serial Number Plate.
Mazda Philippines said that every unit owner is given a commemorative car cover and the MCP 25th Anniversary Photobook.
Further, Mazda Philippines said that the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition will only be produced for a period of one year with final deliveries scheduled for September 15 next year. All Mazda dealerships nationwide are still taking in orders for the commemorative vehicle.
To note, there are 14 Mazda 3S dealerships located at the following areas: Greenhills, Quezon Avenue, Makati, Alabang, Sta. Rosa, Pulilan, Pampanga, Dagupan, Cabanatuan, Tarlac, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan De Oro, and Davao.
