Mitsubishi Motors PH to produce new model in Santa Rosa facility

MANILA: A new Mitsubishi model is set to be produced in the Philippines, the company helm shared.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) President and Chief Executive Officer Takao Kato shared the information to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during a courtesy call in Malacañang as part of the P7-billion investment plan that the company will pour into the country.

The soon-to-be-produced Mitsubishi model in the Philippines has yet to be announced.

Based on the discussion with the country’s chief executive, a new model will be produced in the country, which could result in the further expansion of the marque's  manufacturing facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Currently, the brand’s plant (which is under its subsidiary Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation) can produce 50,000 units per year.  

Per Kato, the Philippines is Mitsubishi’s most important investment in Southeast Asia and is the firm’s number one market.

Should the investment plan push through, Mitsubishi will produce four nameplates in the Philippines, joining the likes of the following:

• Mirage
• Mirage G4
•  L300

Aside from the Philippines, Mitsubishi also has manufacturing facilities in:

Japan	Vietnam
Thailand	China
Indonesia	Russia

For his part, Marcos appreciated MMC’s investment plan, noting that it will generate more jobs in the country.

“The jobs that it will provide, that your investment will provide, are very important to us and certainly, vehicle manufacture is one of those,” Marcos said.

With this, Marcos said that MMC will be included in the Revitalizing the Automotive Industry for Competitiveness Enhancement (RACE) Program, which is a proposed new version of the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program.
