MMDA Lifts Number Coding Scheme for Private Vehicles, Provincial Buses

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has lifted the implementation of the number coding scheme on private vehicles and provincial buses for the Christmas and New Year break.

According to MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago, the number coding scheme for provincial buses is suspended from Dec. 21, 2018 to Jan. 2, 2019.

Meanwhile, the number coding scheme on private vehicles is lifted from Dec. 24, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019.

The MMDA made this decision after it advised motorists to brace for heavy traffic during the Christmas season.

The agency will be deploying its personnel to monitor the traffic situation around the metropolis.

MMDA will likewise be implementing a no-day off and no-absent policy for traffic enforcers, who will be deployed along EDSA, according to its newly-appointed traffic manager, Edison Nebrija.

Data from the agency show that around 402,000 vehicles pass through EDSA daily, surpassing the main thoroughfare's capacity of 288,000 vehicles.
