MMDA orders removal of clutter under EDSA flyovers

MMDA inspection

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos ordered the removal of various objects and debris underneath the three flyovers on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).

These flyovers are the EDSA-Kamuning, Timog, and Quezon Avenue. These objects include MMDA road barriers, and illegally parked and abandoned vehicles that were involved in accidents.

Hindi puwedeng gamiting impounding ito. This is a national highway… (The space cannot be used as an impounding lot. These are part of a national highway). We will coordinate with the proper authorities on this matter,” Abalos said.

No parking and tow away signs will be placed under the bridges to warn motorists to refrain from parking there, the MMDA said.

Abalos had instructed the heads of Metro Parkways Clearing Group (MPCG) and Road Emergency Group (REG) to remove the MMDA equipment from the said areas.

“The equipment that the MMDA is utilizing for emergency purposes will be retained, but not (this much equipment)," Abalos said.

Barriers will be disposed or will be crushed as filling material at the MMDA's Tumana Impounding Area in Marikina.

The MMDA chief added that this directive is applicable on all areas within the jurisdiction of the agency, and not on EDSA alone.

Abalos said the inspection is in line with MMDA's drive to ensure cleanliness in the metro.
