Nissan fields Z Racing Concept at 2023 Super Taikyu Series

Nissan has fielded the Z Racing Concept in the second round of the Eneos Super Taikyu Series 2023.

The Nissan Z Racing Concept, which runs on carbon-neutral fuel, is based on the Z GT4 car with enhancements mainly focused on aerodynamics and cooling system parts.

The event, which ran from May 26 to 28 at the Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka, saw the Nissan Z Racing Concept compete at the ST-Q Class for development vehicles. The #230 car was driven by a four-man team, namely Kihei Hirate, Daiki Sasaki, Mitsunori Takaboshi, and Tsugio Matsuda.

Flying the banner of the Nissan Nismo team and under the supervision of Team Principal Motohiro Matsumura, the crew was able to gather data needed for racecar and aftermarket-part development, as well as to expand its experience with carbon-neutral fuel.

“From a sustainability perspective, we are taking on new challenges to expand our potential in motorsports. We aim to get a lot of data through this tough 24-hour endurance race that we can use in future development, helping us create even more exciting cars for customers around the world,” Nissan Motorsports business Unit Office Head and Nissan Motorsports and Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) President Takao Katagiri, was quoted saying.

Nissan also said that it aims to achieve carbon neutrality throughout its product life cycle by fiscal year 2050. In addition to participating in the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race series, Nissan and NMC are aiming at a wider range of carbon-neutral motorsports.
