Porsche Taycan Bags 2 Wins

Porsche Taycan

Porsche's first purely electrically powered vehicle the Porsche Taycan is on fire these days.

Not only has it won the World Performance Car for 2020, but it also bagged the World Luxury Car at this year’s World Car of the Year Awards 2020 (WCOTY).

Porsche, which had the most number of nominations, also swept all three finalists in the performance car category at the World Performance Award. This historic feat included Porsche Taycan, Porsche 911, and Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4 .

The Taycan took ranked number one in the Performance category with 867 points. It was closely followed by its iconic cousin, the 911 that scored 807 points. Third place went to Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, scoring 716 points—completing a triple clean sweep for the German luxury car brand.

Aside from these awards, Porsche Taycan has currently won around 40 international prizes, especially in the main markets of UK, Germany, China, and USA. Some of these awards include:

  • Car of the Year: Top Gear magazine (UK)
  • Innovation prize from Connect magazine (Germany).
  • Game Changer of the Year: Top Gear magazine (UK)
  • The China Green Car of the Year: Chinese Car of the Year (CCOTY) jury
  • German Car of the Year: German Car of the Year (GCOTY) jury

“We are so happy to have been awarded these prizes. They reflect the positive feedback from our customers and are a great incentive for our future work,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

“We see ourselves as pioneers of sustainable mobility and have brought an emotive as well as highly innovative sports car to the road with the Taycan—fully electric and 100 percent Porsche.”

Porsche Taycan is a four-door sports saloon that carries "the unmistakable Porsche design DNA". This fastest electric four-door sedan around the Nurburgring is named after two Turkish words that mean “soul of a spirited young horse.”

Truly, it's a name that lives up to its meaning, showcasing a lively, impetuous, vigorous, light-footed, and free-spirited performance on the road.

Taycan also has other positive connections in many of the world’s languages. In Japanese, for instance, the word "Taikan" means “physical experience”—driving in its most electrifying form.

The annual World Car Awards, which was announced remotely instead of the usual New York International Auto Show reveal, consisted of 86 global journalists who evaluated the vehicles and voted their top picks.

“This double win in the categories World Performance Car and World Luxury Car underlines what we wanted to achieve when we developed the Taycan," said Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development received the awards.

"We wanted to create a driver-focused, fully electric sports car that can take on any Performance Car. At the same time we focused on uncompromised everyday-usability and contemporary, digital luxury and comfort for four passengers. We are delighted that the WCOTY jury rewards these efforts.”
