What is the revised duration of the special permits for select public utility vehicles?
Instead of April 2-11, the LTFRB announced that the special permit on select PUV units for the upcoming Holy Week will be effective from March 31-April 17.Why did the Board amend the duration of the special permits?
The revision followed Malacañang's Proclamation 90 that declared April 6 (Maundy Thursday) and April 7 (Good Friday) as regular holidays. It also moved the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), a regular holiday observed every April 9, to April 10 since April 9 falls on a Sunday this year.Based on Board Resolution 009, the extent of the special permit for PUV units on the aforementioned period will now be from March 31-April 17,2023 instead of April 2-11.
The revision, the LTFRB explained, followed Malacañang's Proclamation 90 that declared April 6 (Maundy Thursday) and April 7 (Good Friday) as regular holidays. It also moved the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), a regular holiday observed every April 9, to April 10 since April 9 falls on a Sunday this year.
The Board said that given the long holidays, and the “relaxation of travel restrictions and opening of economic activities,” it is expected that more travelers are expected to go home to the provinces to take advantage of the five-day long break.
“With the five-day break, it will give more Filipinos the chance to spend more time with their families in the provinces and for spiritual reflection during the Holy Week. That is why the Board decided to change the duration of special permits so that the commuting public is assured of sufficient supply of public transportation that would take them to their destination,” LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III was quoted as saying.
