Suzuki to develop flying cars in partnership with SkyDrive

SkyDrive's flying car at CES 2022

When we were younger, we saw flying cars in movies to vividly depict the future. And soon, we may be seeing more of it on real steel as Suzuki Motor Corporation has forged a partnership with flying car company SkyDrive.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Who did Suzuki partner with to produce flying cars?

    It is SkyDrive Incorporated.
  • What is SkyDrive?

SkyDrive is a company established in 2018 with the mission of “leading a once-in-a-century mobility revolution.”
  • (Just a fun fact: Suzuki also has a motorcycle with the name Skydrive.)

In a statement, the automotive distributor said that the collaboration with the firm engaged in the development of two-seater electric-powered flying cars will cover “areas of business and technology that include technology research and development, planning of manufacturing and mass-production systems, development of overseas markets with an initial focus on India, and promotion of efforts to attain carbon neutrality.”

    Suzuki x SkyDrive partnership

SkyDrive — which was established in July 2018 with the mission of “leading a once-in-a-century mobility revolution” — has plans to introduce air taxi service at the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, Japan, as well as to initiate service in other regions of Japan.

“Since then, it has advanced the development of flying cars and cargo drones while working in partnership with others to promote the shared vision of a future in which people use air mobility as a means of transportation in their daily lives,” the statement noted.

Suzuki, for its part, “aims to remain indispensable to people by staying closely attuned to lives and providing mobility.”

“The partnership with SkyDrive will provide Suzuki with opportunities to explore and potentially add flying cars as a fourth mobility business,” Suzuki shared in a statement.
