Tesla now in PH: introduces Model 3, Y to local market

Tesla has officially entered the Philippines.

The brand’s arrival in the country is bannered by its two initial offerings for the local market, the Models 3 and Y — both sourced from China.

Model 3 specifications

The Tesla Model 3, which is the brand’s entry model, measures 4,719.32 millimeters (mm) long; 1,932.94 mm wide; and 1,440.18 mm tall with a 137.16-mm ground clearance.

Its overall modern design is complemented by hidden door handles, bold beltlines on each side, 10-spoke alloy wheels, and trapezoidal headlamps.

Welcoming occupants inside the cabin are the simplified multifunction steering wheel, 15.8-inch floating center digital display that already comes with built-in and downloadable applications. It is highly-noticeable that the vehicle does not have a dedicated instrument cluster panel in front of the steering wheel.

The said offering is available in three variants namely Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range, and Performance).

Model Y specifications

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y is 4,749.8 millimeters (mm) long; 1,978.66 mm wide; and 1,625.6 mm tall, with a 157-mm ground clearance and 1995-kilogram curb weight.

The electric crossover’s key exterior features are the minimal body lines, grille-less front fascia, and all-glass roofing.

Inside, the Tesla Model Y is tailored with an avant-garde dashboard, a steering wheel and infotainment system similar to Model 3. Its space can carry 2,100 liters of cargo.

Offered in Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range, and Performance variants, the Tesla Model Y (on paper) can zoom zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in as fast as 3.7 seconds and can cover up to 533 kilometers (based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure [WLTP> standards).

Aside from the product unveiling, the company also opened its flagship showroom in the country called the “Tesla Experience Center” in Uptown Parade — signaling the start of pre-orders. Per Tesla, it will begin delivering units by early next year.

Further, four Tesla Superchargers will be established at Uptown Mall soon.

Supercharging will be available on a pay-per-use basis with rates starting at P19 per kilowatt-hour. A full charge for Tesla vehicles is approximately P1,140.
