Top Selling Nissan Vehicles in 2018

The Philippine automotive industry has a competitive market. A certain car brand needs to be both smart and tough in order to stand-out from the competition. Among the many local car brands, Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) can be considered as one of the brands that stood out in 2018. A testament to this is that NPI’s model lineup is one of the best-selling vehicles in the country. Moreover, NPI smashed through 2018 as it launched the Terra, which marked its official entry to the tightly contested seven-seater SUV segment. With that in mind, we got curious and wanted to find out the top selling Nissan vehicles in the Philippines last year. As such, our friends from Nissan Gateway assisted us on this inquiry by sharing its top selling Nissan vehicles in 2018. The list includes four Nissan models, which is led by the Navara as its best-selling model in 2018. (Note: the list is arranged from the #4 top selling Nissan model to the #1). Number 4: Terra The Terra is Nissan’s challenger in the seven-seater SUV segment, which features the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Isuzu mu-X, Chevrolet Trailblazer, among others. Nissan held the ASEAN launch of the Terra in the Philippines last May 2018. The Philippine-spec Terra has five variants to choose from with a starting price of P1,499,000. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line Terra VL 4x4 AT variant is priced at P2,096,000. The Terra VL 4x4 variant is powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine that delivers 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Aside from the Terra’s notable power output rating, this seven-seater SUV also earned a five-star safety rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). Nissan Gateway shared that its top selling Terra is the VL 4x2 AT with a total of 1,822 units sold in 2018. Number 3: Almera The subcompact sedan Almera finished as the top three best-selling vehicle of Nissan Gateway. Well, you can’t blame those people who purchased the Almera as this car features the arguably most spacious interior cabin. It is offered in five variants with a starting price of P657,000 while its top-of-the-line model is priced at P933,000. The top-of-the-line Almera VL AT variant is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that puts out 98 hp and 134 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. According to Nissan Gateway, its best-selling Almera variant is the E MT as it closed 2018 with a total of 1,923 units sold. Number 2: Urvan The runner-up best-selling vehicle of Nissan Gateway is the Urvan. The Urvan continues to be one of the best-selling Nissan vehicles due to its reliable engine and seating capacity. Let’s admit it, Filipinos love to travel in groups--a road trip wouldn’t be a road trip if the barkada or the family isn’t complete. The Nissan Urvan comes with five variants. Pricing for this Nissan starts at P1,158,000 while the top-of-the-line variant, which is the Urvan Premium AT, has a sticker price of P1,836,000. Speaking of which, the Urvan Premium AT is powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine that generates 127 hp and 356 Nm of torque. It also features a five-speed automatic transmission. The best-selling Urvan under Nissan Gateway is the Urvan 15-seater with 2,432 units sold. Number 1: Navara The top selling vehicle of Nissan Gateway is the Navara, a vehicle that’s still delivering sales since it was first introduced in the Philippine market in 2015. This pickup truck recently got an updated tech early last year. The Navara now comes with the brand’s Intelligent Mobility technology, which is said to enhance overall safety of the car. The Nissan Navara is available in 10 variants with a starting price of P919,000 (4×2 6MT variant) while the most expensive Navara is the Sport edition 4×4 VL 7AT that’s priced at P1.57 million. Of note, Nissan posted a record-high sales last August 2018 with an all-time high of 4,500 units sold. Nissan sales in August mark the highest monthly sales for the brand in the Philippines since the year 2000. This posts a 104-percent increase versus the same period last year and beats the previous 2,869 record performance set last July. Driving this performance is the Nissan Navara, which accounted for 38 percent of sales in the Philippines. Nissan Gateway said that its best-selling Navara variant is the EL Calibre 4x2 AT with 5,567 units sold.
