Toyota Recalls Over 1 Million Units Worldwide for Airbag Issue
Toyota announced Thursday, November 1, that the company is recalling over 1 million vehicles worldwide due to airbags that could inflate without warning or fail to do so in the event of a crash.
Affected vehicles cover those manufactured from July 2002 to June 2015 and includes the Isis, Avensis, Avensis Wagon, Allex, ist, Wish, Corolla, Corolla Spacio, Corollo Verso, Corolla Fielder, Corolla Runx, and Sienta units sold in Japan, Europe and elsewhere.
Toyota explained that an electrical short can damage the airbag circuits, thereby potentially deactivating the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners or cause them to inadvertently deploy.
Toyota plans to notify owners of affected vehicles in December. The faulty airbag units will be replaced at authorized Toyota dealerships.
