Volvo Connected Safety allows its Trucks and Cars to Communicate
Volvo is arguably a brand known for designing cars and trucks that are equipped with safety features and smart technology. As such, the Swedish automaker wants to live up with this statement by introducing a safety tech dubbed as Connected Safety. Connected Safety is a cloud-based service that enables Volvo trucks and cars to wirelessly communicate with one another. This tech is designed to alert drivers, on board a Volvo, about hazardous traffic situations.
Volvo says it sends out alerts to nearby drivers who are "connected to the service whenever a driver activates the vehicle's hazard warning lights." An alert will be transmitted wirelessly to all connected cars and trucks approaching the location of the vehicle that activated the hazard lights.
Volvo Trucks introduced the Connected Safety tech in Sweden and Norway, countries where the company is mostly visible based on annual new vehicle registrations. The system is available on the following Volvo Trucks: FH16, FH, FM, and FMX. On the other hand, Connected Safety is also integrated in Volvo Cars such as the XC60, XC90, XC40, S90, V60, and V90.
This tech from Volvo is similar to the concept behind the Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) technology, a system that gives cars the ability to communicate with one another by wirelessly exchanging information about their speed and location.
