Yes, Folks, This is the First-Ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe
It made an eye-catching impression when launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019.
Still, with all the hoopla behind it—like being the first ever premium compact segment in BMW's lineup—the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe actually carries on a time-tested formula shared by other BMW vehicles in higher classes: a fresh dose of individuality; aesthetic appeal and emotional engagement; innovative control operation and connectivity technology; and excellent everyday usability.
Here's what you should know about BMW's most anticipated gran coupe:
This standalone model carries the latest front-wheel-drive and AWD architecture that's also found in the BMW 1 Series. It has well-contoured proportions, accentuated by a narrow glasshouse and frameless doors.
The contoured kidney grille bars are eye-catching, and the all-new rear lights make them strikingly attractive even when viewed from afar.
The car's interior is as classy as its appearance. The 10.25 inch digital screen and high-quality Sports seat are made from Dakota leather, adding a dose of elegance without going overboard.
One noteworthy feature is its ambient lighting, such as the trim strips on the instrument and door panels. They may appear normal during the day, but drive at night and you'll see them as attractive highlights in the dark. These lights are activated when the vehicle is unlocked, and the higher trims like the M Sport and M235i models will give more options--such as six lighting color variations and adjustable brightness.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe offers the Intelligent Personal Assistant (standard on M Sport and M235i xDrive) that identifies your most efficient route. It also has other optional extras, such as a full color BMW Head-Up Display that can intelligently position information related to the journey into the driver’s field of vision on the windscreen.
It also allows drivers to send destinations straight to their car’s navigation system from different apps and from the comfort of their own home via its Connected Navigation services.
Its digital key allows drivers to lock and unlock their vehicle just by using a Samsung Galaxy smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
The car's BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a number of connected services as standard, including Emergency Call, Teleservices, Over-the-air and USB map updates, BMW App connectivity and Intelligent Voice assistant.
The standard BMW Stereo sound system offers six speakers and 100-watt amplifier, while a Harman Kardon surround sound system with 464 watts of audio power and 16 speakers is optionally available.
Those who prefer advanced technology and better performance can opt for the BMW M235i xDrive. Equipped with ARB technology and BMW Performance Control, it can predict handling in all driving conditions, and split drive 50:50 when needed.
It also has a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential that gives the car a sharper dynamic edge on the road.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé showcases many innovative driver assistance systems. Standard equipment includes Collision and Pedestrian Warning with city braking functions, Lane Departure Warning with active lane return, Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors, Reversing Assistant, and Cruise Control with braking function.
It has a 1499-cc engine that can churn out 140-hp with a 220-Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-52 mph in 8.7 seconds, with a top speed of 133 mph. Its tank capacity is approximately 42 liters.
