Audi A1 Overview
The German carmaker’s luxury compact hatchback is back with a simpler and sleek design plus some modern sporty touches.
Audi is returning with a reimagining of the A1 hatchback. The AI has always been advertised as a complete luxury in a compact vehicle. The latest model isn’t any different, coupled with some new upgrades that add to this small city car’s sophistication. One thing the A1 definitely hasn’t lost is its classy look. However, this time, the carmaker has included some sporty features that complement its classic appearance for a modern touch.
Audi will also be offering an exclusive Sportback edition which has sporty front seats as well as larger tires.

Audi A1 Interior
The A1 is all about simplicity and it reflects strongly in its dashboard layout. The Audi Multi Media Interface is foldable and can be easily hidden to avoid a cluttered appearance. While it does have Bluetooth connectivity, it still lacks automatic climate control which is typically something you’d expect considering the price range. Leather finishes can be found along the interior with the steering wheel also featuring a leather trim. The trunk is significantly spacious for practical use, however, the rear seats are definitely a little cramped despite having the capacity for 5 people.

Audi A1 Exterior
The vehicle’s dimensions are 3, 973 mm x 1,746 mm x 1, 422 mm. However, thanks to its three-door design, the A1’s body appears longer than your typical hatchback which definitely grabs some attention. In addition to this, the black paint on its smooth body curves on the sides of the car also contributes to making it look less small. Next to its signature grille shape on the front are distinct slanted headlights as well as the badge, making it look sleek and clean. The large alloy wheels tie it together by adding a unique, sporty touch.

Audi A1 Ride & Handling
The A1’s steering in normal mode is designed to make everyday driving easier, which is why the steering can feel very laid back. It tightens up a fraction when switched to a sporty mode which is ideal for zipping through the highway. Luckily, there are also tiny paddle shifters on the steering column which help with switching through the seven gears. However, its low suspension can also make the drive feel stiff when encountering potholes and bumps.

Audi A1 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The A1 is outfitted with a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter TFSI engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic transmission. With a top speed of 204 kmph, it can churn out 122 hp and 200 Nm of torque. It can successfully go from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.9 seconds. While not overwhelmingly impressive, it’s definitely reasonable considering the vehicle’s size and weight. On sport mode, it still packs a nice punch on the road. However, it is noticeably sluggish when set on the normal driving mode. Thanks to its relatively efficient fuel economy, it can average out 12.2 kmpl for a few days out in city traffic.
-
Audi A1 Braking & Safety
The A1 has the anti-lock braking system, standard hill-hold start assist, an immobilizer, electronic stabilization program, as well as airbags. While there are no parking sensors, there is a crash sensor.

Audi A1 Verdict
The price for the Audi A1 is available on request, however, the benchmark is expected to be around the price range of higher-range midsize SUVs which is about P1.89 million to P2.5 million. While there’s not much in terms of tech features, its simple but sophisticated exterior and solid powertrain still make it an attractive car to own. However, there are definitely more affordable hatchbacks in the market that can offer both style and a significantly more powerful driving experience--plus more advanced tech features. For those purchasing the A1, you’d mostly just be buying the Audi brand. But the A1 definitely doesn’t skimp out on luxury, so if you’re looking to enter the world of the German carmaker this is a good place to start.
