Audi Q8

The highlight of the Q8 is inside the vehicle itself. Following the current standard of most of Audi’s recent models, there are now two large digital touchscreen systems integrated into the vehicle--one 12.3-inch virtual cockpit display and a 10-inch infotainment system. Both systems take up the centre dashboard. Another digital info display is also positioned in front of the driver which shows all the vehicle data you need while driving. The cabin is also relatively spacious. The cargo offers 605L of space when the rear seats are in place which transforms into 1,755L when you put them up. Other features include four-zone automatic air conditioning, contour lighting, leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera, and a multi-function steering wheel. Audi is also offering optional customized contour seats with a massage function and ventilation.

The Audi Q8 is introducing new styling cues while borrowing from its premium cousins. Compared to the Q7 which had a more straightforward design, the Q8 took a more crossover-coupe approach to give it its distinct and premium appearance. Up front is a now wider octagon-shaped Singleframe grille--which was first seen on the most recent A8 model--to give it that aggressive SUV look. In contrast, there are also sleek HD intelligent LED headlamps, a sloping roofline, and large angular D-pillars which took inspiration from the original Quattro Coupe of the 1980s. On the rear, LED taillights can be found flanking a thin LED light bar. To top it off are 22-inch wheels.

However, the most interesting among all these upgrades have to be the headlights. These top-of-the-line headlights integrate daytime running lights which utilize a three-dimensional design approach--a first of its kind. An optional HD matrix is also available which uses 24 individual LEDs. Instead of automatically dimming when it senses oncoming traffic, the HD matrix is specially designed to still light up the road while preventing other vehicles from getting caught in its line of sight. In addition to that, the lights swipe inside-out when you unlock the vehicle.

The Q8 is particularly agile, especially when crossing through rough terrain. It also offers a dynamic driving experience thanks to its seven different driving modes. ‘Comfort’ is perfect for smooth driving while ‘Dynamic’ gives you a firmer push as well as a more responsive 40mm drop. The off-road mode also raises the suspension 50mm from Standard mode. The all-wheel-drive is subtle but intuitive, with torque-vectoring integrated onto the rear axle. A torque split can also push the front to 70 percent and the rear to 85 percent.

Under the hood is a 3.0-litre turbocharfed TFSI V6 diesel engine which is supported by a mild-hybrid-48-volt system (MHEV) which incudes a lithium-ion battery and a belt alternator starter. This allows it to recover up to 12 kW of power every time you hit the brake. It can generate a whopping 335 hp and 500 Nm of torque, and is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. It also uses Audi’s Quattro all-while drive system as standard.

The base model is equipped with numerous driver-assist features but if you’re looking for more, the premium trims include more advanced options such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, as well as night vision with pedestrian detection. Standard key safety features include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. A central driver assistance controller manages all the assistance systems which use up to five radar sensors, six cameras, twelve ultrasound sensors, and a laser scanner.
