Chevrolet Trax

Unlike other Chevrolet models which have pure jet black interiors, the interior of the 2nd-generation Trax is incorporated with primary color accents. The LT’s interior has a jet black with blue accent interior, while the two higher variants have red accents. This feature gives the Trax an inside appearance that is unique from many of its fellow Chevrolet vehicles. One of the strengths of this model is the premium driver information cluster. The LT has a 3.5-inch monochrome multi-information display, while the two higher variants have 8-inch HD digital multi-information displays. In terms of infotainment system, the LT is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen display, while the higher variants have an 11-inch one. Unfortunately, the model’s infotainment system has no Apple CarPlay, only Bluetooth and Multimedia (Apps, AUX, etc.). 

In terms of seats, the Redline and RS have 8-way power adjustable seats that have lumbar support, while the LT has a 6-way manually-adjustable seat without the said feature. All of the three are equipped with a 4-way manually-adjustable passenger seat and, on the second row, a bench type 60/40 split folding arm rest that has a cup holder. All-around, this model is made with an automatic climate control, rear air vent console, and an AC cabin and pollen filter. This model has a spacious cabin and a generous amount of leg room. However, the headroom is a little low, which would be uncomfortable for taller passengers. Overall, its interior exudes a great mixture of technology and elegance, which is a good middle ground for both tech-savvy and older-generation drivers. 

When you pass by this car, the globally-designed Chevrolet fascia is one of its exterior’s striking features. The Trax follows a modern design with sleek character lines, giving it a nice clean and futuristic appearance–perfect for the newer generation of drivers in the country. At the front, it sports a pair of LED auto control headlamps which are well-blended with the brand’s new LED high-eye DRLs. The front wipers are frameless but not automatic. On the sides, the lowest variant, the LT, has body-colored side mirrors, while the two higher variants, the Redline and RS, have high gloss black side mirrors. This exclusive feature gives the two higher variants a more premium look while on the road. The side mirrors of all the three variants are electronically-adjustable, foldable, and equipped with a heater function. 

Meanwhile, in terms of front and rear bumper garnish, the LT has silver bumper garnishes, while the Redline and RS have black piano finish ones. A downside of this model, however, is that only the RS is equipped with an electric sun roof and a black roof panel. You would think that for the prices, all of the three variants have a sun roof since other cheaper locally-available cars have one. But, sadly, this isn’t the case for the 2nd-generation Chevrolet Trax. In addition to this, only the two higher variants have an automatic power lift gate with height adjustment. 

At the back, all three are made with LED tail lights, high level stop lamps, and rear spoilers. In terms of size, this model is 4,537 mm in length, 2,035 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height for LT, while 1,567 mm for the Redline and RS because of the roof rack. It has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm and a ground clearance of 186 mm. It has a good cargo volume of 1,405 liters, making this a good fit for trips with slightly-heavy packing. Its 18-inch two-tone machine-faced alloy wheels are very stylish and appealing.

The suspension combination of a MacPherson Strut at the front and a Torsion Beam at the rear allows the Chevrolet Trax to absorb bumps well and have good control. Although, sometimes it might feel too firm on rough roads. Overall, this car is designed for daily driving on urban roads.

One of the best selling features of the Chevrolet Trax is its powerful and well-tuned engine. It is powered by a 1.2L, inline-three-cylinder turbocharged engine which can produce a maximum power output of 137 hp and a maximum torque output of 220 nm. This runs on 6-speed automatic transmission and utilizes an FWD drive wheel. You would enjoy driving this on clear highways as it has good throttle and power while maintaining a quiet and peaceful interior. Although, its fuel-efficiency could be better when it comes to bumper-to-bumper driving.

You’ll feel at ease driving this car on busy and chaotic roads since the 2nd-generation Chevrolet Trax is well-equipped with global Chevrolet safety standard features which include advanced driver assistance systems. Its ADAS consists of a forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep and integrated brake assists, auto control high beam, enhanced front pedestrian detection, low speed imminent collision brake, brake prefill, and a vehicle forward movement detection mechanism. The vehicle is also made with enhanced stability control and standard safety features. In terms of braking setup, it utilizes a 16-inch ventilated disc at the front and a 16-inch solid disc brake at the rear. Ultimately, it has a good electro-hydraulic brake system.

Although the Chevrolet Trax underwent a huge upgrade from its previous model, it is still at a significant disadvantage compared to its rival compact crossovers in terms of pricing. Its overall performance and features won’t disappoint you. However, its high pricing range continues to be an impractical factor for many consumers in the Philippine market.
