Mazda CX-30

The Mazda CX-30’s cabin is just a comfortable place to be in. It looks and feels premium courtesy of its Gun Metallic interior trim and terracotta leather seats with Leganu suede. These seats provide top-notch cushioning and ergonomics for everyone on board, which is not a surprise at all since it is a Mazda. However, its rear space still needs improvement in the future as its second row lacks room for three passengers. For a crossover, its trunk space is also a bit unremarkable. But, to make up for this, Mazda has really given the CX-30 with loads of soft-touch materials and high-quality driver and tech features.

Its cockpit gives drivers access to a 7-inch LCD meter set display, an active driving display, a leather-wrapped multicontrol steering wheel that is a joy to hold, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. In terms of technology, you get a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect LCD infotainment display, which is bigger than other Mazdas’ displays. Its infotainment is linked to a 12-speaker BOSE sound system and offers wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth handsfree, and dual USB-C ports. This crossover also has a wireless charger and a dual-zone automatic climate control with rear ventilation louvres.

The Mazda CX-30 features a premium-looking minimalist exterior styling, which carries the brand’s timeless, distinct identity wherever it goes. Its facade has a certain level of boldness courtesy of its black chrome pentagonal front grille. It comes with adaptive LED headlamps with running lamps and a high beam control feature. It also has fog lamps, which ensure that the driver has great visibility at all times. On the sides, it has a nice contrasting look, which is enhanced by gloss black power adjustable and foldable mirrors with auto fold, tilt, and auto dimming (with memory) functions. Additionally, it also has black fenders and window trims for a touch of sportiness. 

At the back, it has LED combination lamps with passive collision signals. For added convenience, this crossover comes with a power liftgate that is equipped with a height adjustment memory feature. It runs on a set of 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels in black metallic. 

In terms of dimensions, the Mazda CX-30 measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width, and 1,540 mm in height. It has a 2,655 mm wheelbase and a 175 mm minimum ground clearance.

The Mazda CX-30 utilizes a suspension combination of a MacPherson strut at the front and a Torsion Beam axle at the rear. It is also equipped with the brand’s G-Vectoring Control Plus. That said, this crossover turns and hits corners really well. Like many of its cousins, it has very responsive steering, allowing you to become one with your vehicle in no time. And, on top of this, it eats up bumps and road imperfections with ease. Ultimately, the CX-30 is engineered to make your daily commute really comfortable and as hassle-free as possible.

The Mazda CX-30 HEV is powered by a full-hybrid powertrain that combines a 2L, In-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve, e-SKYACTIV-G engine with a 24-Volt hybrid system and a 0.216 kWh lithium-ion battery. The engine produces a maximum power output of 164 PS and a maximum torque of 213 Nm, while the integrated electric motor contributes an additional 6.9 PS and 49 Nm. This crossover runs on a SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission system with Sport Mode and utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain. 

Like many of its cousins, the CX-30 has a smooth linear power delivery. It runs effortlessly in the city and has decent fuel economy, making it a feasible daily driver for you and your family. However, when it comes to overtaking or driving at high speeds on free-flowing highways, its powertrain has a tendency to struggle. But, at the end of the day, it still has the right amount of power to get you from point A to point B quickly and efficiently. Its NVH suppression is also superb, resulting in a quiet and relaxing riding experience inside the vehicle.

In terms of safety, the Mazda CX-30 is equipped with the brand’s i-ACTIVSENSE, including a Mazda Radar Cruise Control, front and rear smart brake support with a forward obstruction warning at the front, lane departure warning with a lane keep assist feature, blind spot monitoring, rear and front cross traffic alerts with cross brake supports, cruising and traffic support, driver monitoring system, and a driver attention alert.

The braking setup is equipped with an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and dynamic stability control. It uses ventilated discs at the front, while solid discs at the rear.

The Mazda CX-30 offers an impressive balance of comfort and driver-focused performance, making it a strong option in the crossover segment. However, increased interior and cargo space would significantly enhance its competitiveness moving forward.
