Rolls-Royce Cullinan Overview
Rolls-Royce has long been associated with class. Their most iconic cars - which include the Ghost and the Phantom - have set the bar for luxury sedans. With the recent introduction of Rolls-Royce Cullinan, they’ve penetrated the market for mid-size SUV’s.
This latest addition doesn’t completely veer away from the timeless look which Rolls-Royce is known for. Based on the Phantom’s architecture, the Cullinan marries classic charm with modern design; something that will either make you love or hate it.
Beyond its unique aesthetics or the fact that it’s a first for the British carmarker, Rolls-Royce has created a balance of luxury, leisure, and function. The Cullinan blends off-road performance, elegance, and comfort in a tough outer shell, as is expected of a luxury sports utility vehicle.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Interior
While the exterior raises a few eyebrows, its cabin is effortlessly stunning. The seats, side panels, and dashboard are almost fully clad in leather and wood accents. Buyers can choose which expensive materials and color combinations to use.
The driver can easily access the vehicle’s assistance features from behind the steering wheel. Instrument dials and the central touchscreen all come in a beautiful high-resolution display. Whereas most competitors use Android for entertainment, Rolls-Royce Cullinan has its own propriety audio system.
Its rear can be specced with three individual seats, which can be folded down for an additional 500 liters of cargo. Opting for this layout provides adequate head, leg, and shoulder room for three people. You can also fit the rear with a central lounge seat. This comes with a mini-bar - including a small fridge, Champagne flutes, and whisky glasses.
The space behind the split rear tailgate can be further specified to your liking. You can opt for a motorized drawer to get quick access to a favorite pastime, or a Viewing Suite complete with foldable seats and a cocktail table.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Exterior
The Cullinan is a bigger brother to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, with both sharing the same Architecture of Luxury. It has the same 3-box shape with flat sides and a flat roofline, except it’s taller and has a larger set of wheels.
Its long bonnet is decorated by the ornamental Spirit of Ecstasy. The brand’s signature Pantheon grille is still there, albeit more refined. Other classic features include laser headlights, coach-style doors, and a rear bustle. Taken all together, they give the Rolls-Royce Cullinan an imposing stance. Unfortunately, modern elements like the metal touchpoints seem out-of-place.
You can say what you want about its appearance, however, because riding on the Phantom’s chassis lets it take a beating. The reinforced modular aluminum framework is 30 percent stiffer, allowing it to traverse rough roads with confidence.
-
Rolls-Royce Cullinan Ride & Handling
The Cullinan is nimble on its feet. It may be heavy but it’s shorter and taller than the Phantom, has all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, and an equally powerful engine. The combination of which enables it to maneuver tight spaces and make sharp turns with excellent precision. It also gives the SUV a 540mm wading depth which allows it to ravage through half a meter of water.
While not a full-blown off-roader, the luxury SUV is equipped with driving modes that adjust the car’s engine, suspension, and gearbox. That way, it can better tackle different terrain. Speaking of suspension, it does a great job of keeping the ride pleasant and comfortable.
-
Rolls-Royce Cullinan Engine & Fuel Consumption
Like the Phantom, Rolls-Royce Cullinan carries a 6.75L V12 engine with 8-speed automatic transmission. It has a maximum output of 563 horsepower and 850 Nm torque, plus top speeds of up to 250 kmph. As per the British carmaker, its fuel consumption averages at 8 kmpl.
-
Rolls-Royce Cullinan Braking & Safety
Various driver assistance technology is embedded into the Cullinan. Among its key safety features are automated emergency brakes, forward collision and lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Night vision is another impressive feature as it lets you safely navigate unlit roads.
-
Rolls-Royce Cullinan Verdict
Rolls-Royce Cullinan may be a luxury vehicle but it’s a practical choice in so many ways. A customizable interior means you have the freedom to spec it according to your needs.
It can be made to a daily driver, a weekend traveller, or both. Regardless of how you set it up, rest assured that it can handle off-roads better than most of its competitors.
