10 Fastest Production Cars in the World

Speed freaks rejoice, because we are in the golden era of automotive power. Technology is increasing the horsepower and top speeds of today’s vehicles while lowering their emissions and prices, so now more than ever, we can have fun driving our fast cars without worrying that they’ll hurt the environment, or our pockets.  Good examples of these include the Subaru WRX, Nissan 370Z, Honda Accord, Dodge Challenger, and Ford Mustang. If you want to go faster however, you’re going to need deeper pockets. Speed is power, and none is that more apparent than in the fastest cars that money can buy. Here, we list the 10 fastest production cars with the highest kilometer per hour (km/h) rating, as specified by its manufacturer. The keyword here is “production,” so racers, special editions, and custom jobs are not part of this list.

10. Gumpert Apollo

Top Speed: 359 km/h

The marriage between Roland Gumpert and Apollo ended sometime in June 2016, but before the divorce, there was the car that made the brand famous, the Gumpert Apollo. This car has it all, from luxurious supercar looks along with the power and speed to match. It’s amazing how this car runs fast without the revs rising too high, not that it matters. This German build comes with 650 to 800 horsepower, easily making it one of the most powerful beasts on the road.

9. Noble M600

Top Speed: 362 km/h

Though the brand isn’t a household name in speed circles as a Ferrari, you’ll do well to know that it’s just as fast. It’s equally expensive as well. Though a bit old-school, the car does offer a hypnotic driving experience, enhanced by improved interior quality and the car’s superior usability.

8. Zenvo ST1

Top Speed: 374 km/h

Like the Noble M600, the Zenvo ST1 maybe another car that you may not have heard of. Now that you know its name, seen its looks, and know that it can dish out a whopping 375 km/h, then it’s not likely that you’ll be forgetting this car any time soon.

7. McLaren F1

Top Speed: 386 km/h

First built in 1992, the McLaren F1 is certainly one of the oldest model on this list. The car has enjoyed being the fastest car in the world for many years, even when it went out of production in 1998.  It was finally beaten by the Bugatti Veyron in 2005. But even if many other cars today are leaving it in the dust, many owe their inspiration to what many see as “the finest driving machine yet built for the public road”

6. Koenigsegg CCX

Top Speed: 394 km/h

The Koenigsegg CCX is basically an updated version of the popular CC and CCR models. CCX stands for Competition Coupe X, with the X signifying the 10 years that the car has been in production. According to the Swedish automaker, the CCX is designed to help the brand penetrate the world market, especially the North American region.

5. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Top Speed: 399 km/h

Steve Saleen started out as a tuner of Ford sports cars. Sometime in the 90s, he decided to venture out and build the true American supercar. Thus, the Saleen S7 was born. Like the McLaren F1, Saleen S7 Twin Twin Turbo is also one of the oldest cars on this list, and it’s obvious with the car’s dated looks. Then again, at 399 km/h, no one can argue why it shouldn’t be on this list.

4. SSC Ultimate Aero

Top Speed: 414 km/h

The SSC Ultimate Aero can trace its roots from a 2004 prototype that combined a Lamborghini Diablo chassis, a Chevrolet Corvette C5R engine, and a Dodge Viper 6-speed manual gearbox. Essentially a modified version of that original Aero, the SSC Ultimate Aero takes its predecessor’s capabilities to new heights, with almost 1200 hp and more than 1100 Nm of torque.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R

Top Speed: 440 km/h

When Koenigsegg unveiled the Agera R in 2013, it was clear that the Swedish car brand had its sights set to compete with the leaders of the supercar pack. The latest model offers modern technology and power while retaining the unmistakable look that made it extremely popular. The use of super-light carbon fiber reduces the car’s overall weight by almost 20 kilos.

2. Bugatti Veyron

Top Speed: 431 km/h

The Bugatti Veyron enjoyed being the fastest car for a time—that is, until the Hennessey Venom GT came along. It held on to the crown from July 10, 2010 to February 14, 2014 when the new king was announced. For comparison’s sake, the original Bugatti Veyron topped at 407 km/h.

1. Hennessey Venom GT

Top Speed: 435 km/h

The Guinness Book of World Records recognize the Venom GT as the fastest car on the planet, a prestigious tag which it has held on to since 2013. Dubbed the “supercar for the ages,” the world’s fastest car just got faster with the release of the 2016 model, which achieved an astounding 435 km/h at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center last year. Will we see a new car take the number one spot before the year ends? That remains to be seen. But whether that happens or not, we're just happy that these cars exist to quench our thirst for speed.
