13th PEVS kicks off tomorrow
MANILA: The 13th edition of the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) kicks off tomorrow.

It will be staged under the theme “PH EV Sector Charges Ahead with More Investments to Ignite Long-Term EVolution,” which will highlight the latest developments and investments driving the continued growth of the country’s electric vehicle industry.

Attending the 13th PEVS are major electric mobility brands, which include the following:
- BYD Cars Philippines
- GAC Philippines
- Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines
- United Asia Automotive Group, Incorporated
Also participating are brands such as Kia and Honda.

“After lobbying for the legislations and national policies that initiate and propel the growth of the local EV sector, EVAP (Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines) recognizes the fact that we remain in a more crucial time,” EVAP President Edmund Araga was quoted as saying.
“EVs require sufficient and reliable charging infrastructure nationwide. At the same time, we should also get to the forefront of the development of more efficient and accessible battery technologies. Hence, we are supporting national efforts to establish more partnerships with the private sector and potential investors,” he added.
Further thrusts in sustainable mobility
Event organizers also shared encouraging information regarding the local new-energy vehicle sector. The announcement include the below:
- Possibility of establishing new local facilities manufacturing EVs and renewable energy equipment
- Expressions of interest from still undisclosed private investors that aim to roll out a combined 4,000 EV charging stations nationwide
Other promising news
Aside from the aforementioned, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation has made known its intention to infuse an additional P7 billion to heed the government’s push for EVs and renewable energy.
Likewise, the Department of Trade and Industry lobbied the new Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy, which when approved could generate up to P11.4 trillion in economic outputs and possibly create nearly 700,000 local jobs.
In addition, the Asian Development Bank has agreed to infuse USD100 million (about P5.841 billion) into the local EV sector through a financing arrangement with the Ayala Corporation.
Finally, Australia's StB GIGA Factory in September 2024 opened the first EV battery facility in the country, located in New Clark City.
