The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is speeding up the two road concreting projects in the province of Aklan to further bolster the agricultural and trade activities in the area.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the two road concreting projects in Aklan?

The two road concreting projects in Aklan are the 1.3-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) in the municipality of Nabas and the Batan-Mandong-Napti-Camansi-Sapian Boundary Road in the municipality of Batan.
  • What is the purpose of the two aforementioned projects?

The projects are aimed at bolstering agricultural activities in the area.
  • In a statement, the public works department identified the two projects as the 1.3-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) in the municipality of Nabas and the Batan-Mandong-Napti-Camansi-Sapian Boundary Road in the municipality of Batan.

According to DPWH, the road from Barangay Matabana to Barangay Buenafortuna has a reinforced concrete lined ditch and slope protection. Once completed, the FMR is expected to better connect agricultural lands and fisheries to markets that will allow producers to transport their products to traders and consumers with relative ease.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno said that the project amounting to P14.9 million is being implemented in convergence with the Department of Agriculture (DA) under the fiscal year 2022 funding.

Meanwhile, the concreting of the Batan-Mandong-Napti-Camansi-Sapian Boundary Road has a budget of P28.9 million being undertaken by the DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office.

OIC-District Engineer Gener Abregas said in his report that the project covers 2.4 kilometers of portland concrete cement paving in support of the coconut processing industry in the municipality.

The aforementioned convergence project under the Roads Leveraging Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) Program with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will provide an alternative route to the adjacent province of Capiz.

“DPWH will continue to partner with other government agencies to spur more economic opportunities for Aklanons and boost the agriculture and trade industries of the province,” Bueno was quoted as saying.
