3 roads still closed after ‘Florita’ onslaught

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that three national road sections in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Region 2 are still closed to traffic days after Tropical Storm Florita ravaged the area.

The department said that as of 6 a.m. today (August 25) the aforementioned number of roads are still impassable to vehicular traffic due to road cut, soil collapse and flooding.

According to public works secretary Manuel Bonoan, impassable roads include Kennon Road which is closed for safety reasons. Motorists going to Baguio City may take Marcos Highway, Baguio-Bauang Road, or Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual Road as alternate routes.

The Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road, K0717+500-K0717+570 in Namaltugan, Calanasan, Apayao — which is currently undergoing road clearing operation — is closed due to road cut and soil collapse.

Meanwhile, the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Road, Cabagan Overflow Bridge in Isabela remains closed to all types of vehicles due to flooding. In the meantime, motorists are advised to use the Daang Maharlika-Cagayan Valley Road as an alternative road.

Last Wednesday (August 24), the DPWH reported a total of seven portions of national roads in Luzon were closed to traffic due to landslides, fallen trees, and flooding.

Florita is said to be the sixth tropical cyclone that hit the country in 2022.
