In 2020, Laos’ former PM Thongloun Sisoulith visited BYD’s Xi’an Industrial campus. The Lao government has recently been paying increasing attention to the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry and announced last October that all-electric vehicles will be prioritized for the procurement of government cars.

The first 28 BYD NEVs (including 12 BYD C8 electric buses, eight units BYD T5D electric light trucks, and eight units Yuan EV), were shipped in July. In September, BYD officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Loca, the largest ride-hailing service platform in Laos.

In 2022, BYD plans to deliver 100 EVs to Laos.
