Ford Releases More Details on Reservations for Ford Mustang Mach-E

Despite the vitriol from purist Mustang fans who don’t want the name associated with anything less than a Ford muscle car, the Blue Oval confirmed that the Mustang Mach-E is selling like hotcakes, with reservations for the First Edition of the model now officially full.

However, pre-order is still available for the five-door electric crossover’s Premium and GT edition. And with this announcement, Ford provides the following facts about reservations for their premiere EV:

  • 2021 Mustang Mach-E First Edition reservations are full
  • Carbonized Gray is the most popular choice with 38 percent choosing it, with Grabber Blue Metallic 35 percent and Rapid Red 27 percent
  • More than 80 percent of U.S. customers are reserving Mach-E with an Extended Range Battery
  • About 55 percent are opting for all-wheel drive
  • Almost 30 percent of U.S. customers are choosing the Mach-E GT
  • More than a quarter of all reservations are coming from California

Ford did not release numbers on how many reservations it now has, but since reservations are far from an actual sale, some of those who have placed orders are likely to drop out before they complete the buying process, so reservations could open up again for the crossover in the near future.

Part of the appeal of the Mustang Mach-E is that more than just an average electric vehicle, it can do maximum 459 hp and 830 Nm torque (Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition only) courtesy of a 757-kWh battery and rear-wheel drive provided by a single permanent magnet electric motor and a second motor that adds all-wheel drive capabilities. The available extended range battery pushes the car to a range of more or less 500 kms.

At the center of the Mach-E’s cabin lies a 15.5 inch touchscreen that handles all infotainment and climate operations. A little physical knob also floats on the surface of the 15.5-inch screen, similar to what’s available in today’s Jaguar Land Rover models.

The next-generation Ford SYNC also makes its debut, which introduces machine-learning to its list of capabilities while simplifying touch, swipe and pinch functions via its more intuitive design. A digital 10.2-inch screen makes up the instrument cluster.

As for interior space, the Mach-E is designed to seat five adults comfortably and ensures there’s “plenty of space for friends, kids and cargo.” Top-of-the-line Bang & Olufsen speakers are seamlessly incorporated across the front dash, situated just above the air vents in a floating manner. A floating flip-up armrest doubles as a place to store trinkets, bags and other accessories.
