FYI: LTO Releases Primer on Road Traffic Signs, Pavement Markings

Taking your driver's license tests soon or perhaps you're a veteran driver who's forgotten what those road signs and markings on the road mean? Well, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has some good news for you as they recently released a primer that's simply titled "Road Traffic Signs & Pavement Markings."

Taken from the 2012 edition of the Department of Public Works and Highways' (DPWH) "Road Signs and Pavement Markings Manual," the primer enumerates all the, well, road signs and pavement markings that you might see on local roads, from priority ones like the 'STOP' sign...

...to warning signs and hazard markers like the 'SLOW DOWN' and 'ONE WAY HAZARD' signs, respectively.

And then there are the various pavement markings that most motorists are either: (a) clueless about; (b) have forgotten; (c) or just downright ignore--like the 'BROKEN AND SOLID YELLOW LINES' which allows the vehicle on the side of the broken line to overtake but not the one on the side of solid line. You'll see this being disregarded often in the province.

There's also the 'STOP LINE' which is the white line that precedes the pedestrian lane and where vehicles are supposed to stop. You'll see this being disregarded everywhere, especially by motorcycle riders. ESPECIALLY BY MOTORCYCLE RIDERS.
